Little Acts of Kindness

Little Acts of Kindness

There is a coffee shop near my house that has a mint drink they call the Moroccan Mint Cloud. This is a seasonal drink they only serve in the summer. It is an iced mixture of Moroccan mint tea, honey and whatever nitro cream is.

It's light, refreshing, and my favorite thing to drink in the summer.

The problem is, the coffee shop often doesn't get it on the menu until well into summer, and they take it off the menu when it's technically fall, but most certainly still hot. So mid-September rolls around, it's still 90 degrees, and now instead of the refreshing Moroccan Mint Cloud, they offer spiced chai.

I try to get the Moroccan Mint Cloud as often as possible, and this September, I made a special trip there, knowing it was about to go away.

And, you guessed it, I got to the coffee shop and saw they had switched their menu to spooky season, and while I could get a variety of heavily spiced and pumpkined drinks, I could not get my beloved Moroccan Mint Cloud.

The young woman working the counter noticed I was looking sad and inquired as to what I wanted. I told her I had to re-decide since the Moroccan Mint Cloud was a thing of the past.

She and the other barista clucked sympathetically. While I tried to reroute my very sad brain, the younger barista said, "I have some regular mint tea. I could brew it and make you one, but it will be a little different."

And she did. And it was amazing.

This woman offering to go out of her way to make me a product I really didn't need (if I don't know what a nitro cloud is, can I really say I need it?) made my day.

So this is to her, and the other barista, and all the other people out there who have done just a little extra work to make someone's day a little better. If you are the kind of person who will make a stranger mint tea a world of allspice and pumpkins, this is for you.

I see you and appreciate you.
